April Weather in Spain: A Warm Start Before Rain Returns
April will begin with warm and mostly dry weather in Spain, but rain is expected to arrive by midweek. While temperatures will stay mild, some areas could see showers, especially as Semana Santa (Holy Week) approaches.
Warm and Dry at the Start of April
The first few days of April will be sunny and warm, thanks to a high-pressure system over northern Europe.
- Monday and Tuesday (April 1-2): Most of Spain will have clear skies and temperatures above 20°C, especially in the south and east.
- Canary Islands: Some clouds and light rain could continue due to a weather system nearby.
- Northern Spain: A bit cooler with some clouds, but mostly dry.
Rain Arrives Midweek
From Wednesday, the weather will start to change as a low-pressure system moves in from the Atlantic.
- Wednesday (April 3): Scattered showers may develop in western and central Spain, including Extremadura, Castile and León, and western AndalucÃa.
- Thursday and Friday (April 4-5): More rain is likely, especially in the west and center. Cities like Madrid, Salamanca, and Sevilla could see moderate rainfall. The east coast may stay drier.
Will It Rain During Semana Santa?
The weather during Semana Santa is still uncertain, but some areas are more likely to see rain than others.
- North (Galicia, Asturias, Basque Country): Higher chance of rain, especially later in the week.
- West and Central Spain: Showers possible, but not all day.
- South and East (AndalucÃa, Murcia, Valencia, Catalonia): Mostly dry, but a few showers could appear.
- Islands: Some rain in the Canary Islands, but the Balearic Islands should stay mostly dry.
Temperatures: Staying Mild Despite the Rain
Even with the rain, temperatures will remain close to normal for April.
- Daytime highs: 18-24°C in most places. AndalucÃa could reach 25-26°C.
- Nighttime lows: 8-14°C, but colder in the mountains.
- Cooler areas: Northern Spain and mountain regions will be slightly colder.
