Carlos Alcaraz wonât be playing in this yearâs Madrid Open after picking up an injury in the final of the Barcelona Open. The 21-year-old Spanish tennis star, from El Palmar in the Region of Murcia, hurt his right adductor during his match against Holger Rune on Sunday, April 20.
Injury Forces Alcaraz to Rest Ahead of Major Tournaments
Alcaraz, whoâs won the Madrid Open twice, had hoped the injury wouldnât be too serious. But after medical tests, it was clear he needs some rest to avoid making things worse. ‘I need to listen to my body,’ Alcaraz said. Heâs now focusing on making sure heâs fully recovered for his next big goal: Roland Garros, the French Open.
A Tough Call for the Young Tennis Star
Itâs a tough break for Carlos Alcaraz, especially since Madrid is one of his favorite tournaments. But he knows that playing through the pain could keep him from being in top shape for Paris. ‘Itâs a hard decision, but itâs the right one. I need to rest and be ready for Roland Garros,’ he explained.
Looking Ahead to Rome and Roland Garros
Despite the setback, Alcaraz is staying positive. He believes heâll be back on the court soon, with his eyes set on the Rome Masters starting May 7. ‘Iâm not too worried about the injury. I think itâll take about a week to two weeks to recover,’ he said.
For now, Alcaraz is focused on getting healthy and ready for Roland Garros, where heâll be looking to make another strong run at one of tennisâ biggest titles.
