Alcaraz Stuns Sinner with Historic Comeback to Win Roland Garros 2025

A Final for the Ages at Roland Garros

Carlos Alcaraz has done it again. The 22-year-old Spanish tennis star pulled off an incredible comeback to win his fifth Grand Slam title and defend his French Open crown at Roland Garros 2025.

In what many are calling one of the greatest tennis matches ever, Alcaraz beat world number one Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller. The match lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes, making it the longest final in French Open history.

Saving Three Match Points

Things looked bleak for Alcaraz in the fourth set. He was down 3-5, 0-40 on his own serve, just one point away from losing the match. But somehow, he saved all three championship points, leveled the set, and pushed the match into a deciding fifth.

The final ended in a 10-point super tiebreak, with Alcaraz dominating 10-2. He dropped to the ground in celebration, full of emotion, before running to his team.

A True Champion

This win keeps Alcaraz undefeated in Grand Slam finals. He has now won all five he’s played, joining a rare group of players who’ve done so. He is the third-youngest male tennis player in history to reach five major titles, behind only Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg.

This young tennis star, from El Palmar in Murcia, also became just the third player this century to defend the Roland Garros title, following in the footsteps of Nadal.

A Rivalry for the Ages

This was the 12th match between Alcaraz and Sinner, two players seen as the future of men’s tennis. Although Sinner had not beaten Alcaraz since 2023, he came into the final on a 20-match Grand Slam winning streak.

Still, Alcaraz’s mental strength and powerful shot-making proved too much. He now leads their head-to-head rivalry 8-5.

A Historic Clay Court Season

With this win, Alcaraz capped off a dominant clay court season. He won titles in Monte Carlo and Rome, reached the final in Barcelona, and won 22 of 23 clay matches this year.

He now has 20 career titles and leads the ATP Tour in match wins, titles, and points in 2025. He’s also closing in on Sinner’s world number one ranking.

Inspired by the Crowd

The crowd in Paris played a big part in this win. They cheered Alcaraz on with chants of ‘Carlos, Carlos!’, giving him energy when he needed it most. He responded with some of the best tennis of his life.
