Blaze in Castellón Apartment Complex Causes Evacuations
A large fire broke out on Wednesday evening, April 16, in a residential area of Castellón, causing major damage to part of a building. The fire began around 5:50 p.m. in a shared courtyard between several apartment blocks, which allowed the flames to spread rapidly. Although the fire caused dramatic scenes and heavy smoke, no serious injuries were reported.
Residents evacuated from two buildings
The blaze forced the evacuation of residents from two nearby buildings. Emergency teams acted quickly to get people to safety. Four or five elderly or mobility-impaired residents were kept inside their homes until they could be safely helped down the stairs. The evacuation proceeded without the need for specialized equipment.

Firefighters continue inspection and safety checks
Eighteen firefighters and four fire trucks were sent to the scene, along with three ambulances. Fire crews are still in the area inspecting damaged homes and checking nearby buildings to prevent the fire from restarting. The fire is now under control.
Minor injuries and medical assistance
Two people were treated for very minor burns on their hands and arms. A woman also received help after suffering an anxiety attack. One firefighter was affected by heat exhaustion while trying to enter a locked apartment to make sure it was empty.
Investigation underway
The local mayor, Begoña Carrasco, praised the quick and coordinated response of emergency services, especially the firefighters, calling them ‘heroes.’ The scientific police are now investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
