German Woman Dies After Shark Attack Off Canary Islands
A 30-year-old German woman tragically died after being attacked by a shark while aboard a British-flagged catamaran off the Canary Islands. The woman was part of the crew of the vessel Dalliance Chichester, which had set sail from Las Palmas on September 14. The attack occurred 278 miles southwest of Gran Canaria in international waters, about 110 miles east of Dakhla in Western Sahara.
Evacuation Effort and Fatal Outcome
Spanish coastguards responded swiftly to an emergency alert from the catamaran. A nearby vessel provided medical supplies to assist the injured woman, who had lost her leg in the attack. A Spanish Air Force helicopter was dispatched to evacuate her to Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas. However, despite efforts to save her, the woman went into cardiac arrest during the flight and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Shark Attacks Rare in the Area
