Snow Blankets Parts of the Mediterranean Region
Snowfall blanketed parts of the Mediterranean and surprised many, with vehicles getting stuck in parts of Alicante. The snow, along with heavy rain and hail, has passed through parts of Valencia, Murcia, and Castellón.
Snow Covers the Interior of Valencia and Alicante
On Thursday, January 16, snow fell in inland areas of Valencia and Alicante, creating unusual but beautiful scenes. Towns like Ibi, Onil, and Banyeres were blanketed in white, and several vehicles were left stranded overnight due to the snow. Fortunately, local firefighters were quick to help those affected.

Castellón on Yellow Alert for Rain and Snow
The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued a yellow alert for rain in Castellón, with the possibility of hail along the coast. Inland areas may see more snow due to cold temperatures. The Alto Palancia region has already experienced snow, covering roads in a few areas.
Snow in Other Parts of Valencia
Other areas, like Requena, also saw some snow, although it didn’t stick as much as in the Sierra de Enguera or inland Alicante. This unusual weather was caused by a low-pressure system (DANA) and the approach of storm Gabri.
First Snowfall of 2025 in the Northwest of Murcia
In the early hours of Friday, the temperatures in the Northwest of the Region of Murcia dropped, bringing the first snowfall of 2025. Areas like Caravaca and Moratalla saw light snowflakes as cold temperatures combined with precipitation.
The town of Inazares, located at an altitude of 1,350 meters, saw snow covering the landscape in places like Campo de San Juan and the Sierra del Buitre. Snow also made its way into the nearby pedanías (local districts) of El Moralejo and El Hornico in Caravaca. This marked the region’s first taste of winter in 2025.

Baleares and Other Areas Affected
The storm’s effects aren’t limited to the mainland. The Balearic Islands, the Strait of Gibraltar, and Melilla also saw cloudy skies, rain, and storms. Snowfall, though light, reached the mountains of Mallorca.
With the snow already having passed, the Mediterranean region has seen its share of unusual weather, but conditions are expected to settle soon.
