Spain Weather Forecast: From Heavy Rains to a Sudden Warm-Up

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reports that the worst of the recent storms is finally over. After several days of torrential rain and local flooding in the Comunitat Valenciana, Catalunya, the Illes Balears and parts of the Región de Murcia, the low-pressure system known as ex-Gabrielle is moving away from the country. This means the unsettled skies, thunderstorms, and flooded streets that have marked the start of the week will gradually give way to calmer conditions.

Temperatures Set to Rise Across Much of Spain

With the storm system retreating, a strong area of high pressure is expected to bring sunnier and more stable weather to most regions. Temperatures will climb steadily, with many areas experiencing a jump of 5 to 10 degrees compared to the cooler, almost autumn-like start of the week. In parts of Andalucía, Murcia and the Mediterranean coast, daytime highs will once again approach 30 °C. Night temperatures will also rise slightly, though cooler air will linger in the north and in some inland areas.

Remaining Showers in the East and Islands

While most of the country will enjoy dry weather, Aemet warns that some showers will persist. Catalunya and the Balearic Islands could still see occasional rain, and there is a chance of isolated showers in the southeast, particularly near the Alborán coast. The Canary Islands may also experience some weak, scattered rainfall if a pocket of unstable subtropical air develops over the coming days.

Outlook for the Rest of the Week

The first days of October will be marked by a return to generally dry, settled conditions. Thursday, October 2, is expected to bring more sunshine and a further rise in temperatures across the interior of the Peninsula, while the Mediterranean coast will also warm up heading into the weekend. By Friday, much of Spain will feel more like late summer than early autumn. The only exceptions could be in the far north and Galicia, where a weak Atlantic front may bring cooler air and a few showers.

A Brief Return of “Veranillo”

This shift marks the arrival of a classic Spanish “veranillo”, a short burst of late-summer warmth. For most of the country, this means several days of bright skies, warmer afternoons and a welcome break from the heavy rain. While some eastern areas may still see passing showers, the general trend is towards a sunnier, drier, and warmer start to October.
