US Demands Spanish Suppliers Certify No Gender or Diversity Policies

The US Embassy in Spain has asked its suppliers to certify that they do not implement any internal policies promoting diversity and inclusion related to race or gender. Companies have been given five days to sign a document confirming compliance or risk payment suspensions.

Why Is the US Making This Request?

This requirement stems from executive orders introduced by President Donald Trump. These orders aim to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within US government operations and its affiliated businesses. The embassy’s request aligns with these policies and focuses on ensuring that suppliers follow US anti-discrimination laws.

Who Does This Affect?

The directive only impacts contracts and operations governed by US law. Spanish companies working with the US government are required to provide written proof that they do not have DEI programs that could violate these regulations. Failure to comply within the five-day window could result in halted payments.

Trump’s Broader Anti-DEI Policies

Since his inauguration, Donald Trump has been vocal about his stance against what he calls ‘woke’ initiatives. Early in his term, he ordered the closure of DEI offices within federal agencies and placed related employees on administrative leave. Trump has consistently argued for a merit-based system that, in his view, avoids focusing on race or gender.

What’s Next for Affected Companies?

Businesses supplying the US government must quickly assess their internal policies to ensure compliance. This move has sparked debate about the balance between anti-discrimination laws and efforts to promote workplace diversity. Companies now face the challenge of aligning with US regulations while navigating their own diversity commitments.

I think it’s a disgrace that the US can determine what goes on in Spanish companies, if they are in US that’s ok.. I don’t agree with any of Trump’s policies anyway and certainly not with this… HE is becoming a dictator and he talks about other presidents !!
