Second Missing Person Found Dead After Storm Laurence Floods in Spain
Rescue teams in Constantina, Sevilla, have found the body of Fernando Ramírez, the second missing person following the devastating floods caused by Storm Laurence. The discovery comes a day after his wife, María, was located deceased in the same area.
Search Efforts Resumed at First Light
Authorities resumed the search early Wednesday morning, March 19, focusing on the area near the Guadalbárcar stream, where the couple’s overturned vehicle was previously found. Fernando’s body was recovered nearby, confirming the fears of rescue teams and family members.
Fernando and María, both farm workers, were driving to work when their vehicle was caught in rising floodwaters. Colleagues raised the alarm at 10:27 a.m. after the pair failed to arrive at their destination.
Widespread Impact of Storm Laurence
The powerful storm brought torrential rains that caused severe flooding, forcing evacuations and road closures across Andalucía and Murcia. Overflowing rivers and streams led to dangerous conditions, ultimately claiming lives.
Fernando’s body has been transported to the Guardia Civil barracks, where forensic specialists will complete the official judicial protocol. The couple’s tragic deaths highlight the destructive power of extreme weather events, as Spain continues to recover from the storm’s aftermath.
