Storm Olivier and Wet Weather Ahead: Semana Santa Forecast
It’s almost a tradition at this point, no matter what the forecast says, rain always seems to make an appearance during Semana Santa. And this year looks like it will be no exception. While the details may change from day to day, one thing is clear: wet weather is on the cards for many parts of Spain as we head into the Easter holidays.
Storm Olivier has already got things going, and with another weather system on the way, the start of Semana Santa 2025 looks set to be unsettled right across the country.
Storm Olivier Opens the Floodgates
The first signs of what’s to come have already been seen in the Canary Islands, where storm Olivier has delivered heavy rain over the past few days. Now, that same system is pushing towards mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, spreading wet conditions far and wide.
From Friday, April 11, onwards, right as many people hit the road for the first big getaway of the Easter period, the rain is expected to become heavier and more widespread. It won’t just be a passing shower either; this looks set to be a proper spell of unsettled weather, with showers and even thunderstorms likely across much of the country.

Rain for (Almost) Everyone: What the Forecast Says
The big headline is that it’s going to rain just about everywhere. No region is completely off the hook, but the good news is that the rain won’t fall the same way everywhere.
In many parts of Spain, we’re looking at showers that come and go, with some days seeing heavier downpours and others bringing more of a drizzle. Thunderstorms are also on the cards in some areas, adding to the unpredictable nature of the week.
If you’re heading to inland areas or the north, pack your waterproofs, these regions are expected to see some of the heaviest rain, especially heading into the weekend.
Where Will See Less Rain During Semana Santa?
While no place is guaranteed to stay completely dry, some parts of Spain could see a bit of a break from the worst of the weather. The eastern side of the country looks slightly better off.
Areas like Girona, Barcelona, the southern parts of Lleida, and the eastern side of Zaragoza should have weaker and more scattered showers. Along the coastlines of Valencia, Castellón, Murcia, and Almería, any rain is expected to be lighter and more isolated. You might even catch a few dry windows, perfect for squeezing in some outdoor plans between showers.
However, it’s still worth keeping an umbrella close by, as even these spots aren’t totally in the clear.
What About the Mediterranean Coast and the Balearic Islands?
The Mediterranean coastal regions and the Balearic Islands are expected to fare a bit better, too. Yes, showers will still pop up, but they should be less intense compared to other parts of the country. Here, you can expect passing showers rather than long spells of rain, and temperatures should remain mild.
Even so, don’t let the lighter forecast tempt you to leave your raincoat behind, this weather pattern is unpredictable, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
