Weather Update for Spain: Orange Alert for Valencia
Spain is in for some pretty changeable weather in the next couple of days. The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned of widespread storms on the horizon, mainly due to the arrival of a DANA (isolated depression at high levels) over the country. This will bring heavy rainfall and potentially strong storms, including hail, across much of Spain.
Orange Alert for Storms in the Valencian Community on Thursday
AEMET has issued an orange alert (level 2) for storms in the Valencian Community on Thursday, May 8. The region is expected to experience intense storms, including heavy rain and maybe even hail. If you’re in the Valencian Community, stay alert and take necessary precautions to protect yourself from the stormy conditions.
Rising Temperatures Despite the Storms
Although the storms will bring wet weather, temperatures will gradually rise throughout the weekend. After a cooler start to the week, particularly in the northern regions, temperatures will begin to align more with typical May weather. Cities like Logroño, Pamplona, and Burgos had temperatures as low as 10-12°C earlier in the week, but this will change. Temperatures will climb to around 18-20°C in areas like the Ebro basin, and 23-25°C in the Guadalquivir Valley.

Friday: Strong Storms and Rising Temperatures
On Friday, heavy rain and storms will affect most of the country, especially in the center and north. Despite the rain, temperatures will rise in many areas, reaching above 22°C in the Ebro Valley and 25°C in regions like the Guadalquivir Valley and southern Valencian Community.
Saturday: A Warm Start to the Weekend, but More Rain
Saturday will see temperatures rise, with cities like Bilbao and San Sebastián reaching 25°C. However, expect more rain in the afternoon, particularly in the northern half of Spain, with possible hailstorms.
Sunday and Beyond: More Rain, Lower Temperatures
Unsettled weather will continue into Sunday, with showers expected across much of Spain, including the Balearic Islands. Temperatures will drop slightly, and next week could bring more localized rain to northern regions and higher altitudes.
AEMET’s Warning: Stay Alert
AEMET has also issued alerts for more changes in weather as a new DANA approaches. It’s crucial to stay updated on the latest forecasts, as weather conditions may change rapidly. Light winds are expected in the northeast and Balearic Islands, but stronger winds will affect coastal areas, particularly in Galicia and the Alboran Sea.
For those in the Valencian Community, Thursday’s orange alert signals that tomorrow will likely bring the worst of the storms. Stay informed and be prepared for possibly challenging weather ahead.
