What Will the Weather Be Like for Christmas in Spain?
As we approach the festive season, the weather forecast for Christmas Eve (Nochebuena) and Christmas Day (Navidad) looks pretty mild and stable across Spain, according to the AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency). While millions are planning their trips or family get-togethers, the weather will be largely calm, with some exceptions.
Mild Temperatures Across Spain
On Christmas Eve, temperatures are expected to stay quite warm for this time of year, especially in the Mediterranean regions and the Guadalquivir Valley, where highs could reach up to 20°C. Cities like Valencia, Sevilla, and Alicante will experience temperatures between 17°C and 20°C, making it feel like a ‘mild winter.’ Madrid and Zaragoza will hover around 15°C, while the cooler cities of Ávila and Teruel will be at 9-10°C.
Clear Skies and Stable Weather
For most of Spain, the weather will be dominated by an anticyclone, meaning clear skies and dry conditions. There may be some exceptions, particularly in the Cantabrian Coast and the Pyrenees, where light rain and snow are expected in the mountains. The southern parts of Andalucía might see a few scattered showers, while the Canary Islands will experience more rainfall, possibly heavy at times.
A Few Exceptions: Rain and Snow in Some Areas
While the weather will be mostly sunny, the far north and parts of the Canary Islands will see some precipitation. On Christmas Day, you can expect another stable day with some clouds in the north and possible showers in areas like the Basque Country and Mallorca. There may also be some fog in inland regions like the Meseta Norte. But for most of Spain, it will be a relatively mild and dry day, ideal for Christmas celebrations.
The Weather for Key Regions
- Andalucía: Clear skies and highs of 18-20°C, with chilly nights dipping to around 6°C.
- Aragon: Sunny, but cold at night in the Pyrenees, with temperatures as low as -4°C.
- Asturias: Some clouds with highs of 12-15°C, and lows around 6°C.
- Cataluña: Lows in the Pyrenees could be below zero, while the coast will enjoy mild weather with 15°C.
- Madrid: Clear skies with temperatures reaching 14°C during the day, but cold at night with possible frost in the outskirts.
- Canary Islands: Expect stable weather with temperatures between 20-24°C along the coast, with a bit more cloud cover in the western islands.

Looking Ahead: Post-Christmas Weather
After Christmas, expect the weather to stay stable, though a bit cooler. Temperatures may drop slightly, especially at night, with some frost in inland areas. As for the Mediterranean, there could be some rain towards the end of the week. However, most of Spain will enjoy clear skies and mild weather through the holidays.
Whether you’re planning to travel or stay at home, the weather this Christmas in Spain looks perfect for enjoying family time and outdoor activities without worrying about a winter chill!
