Weather Alerts Issued for Heat Across Spain

Spain experienced a scorching day today, July 10, with heat alerts in effect for many regions across the country. The temperature peaked, making this the hottest day of the week. Many areas saw temperatures soar above 38°C, with some southern regions surpassing 40°C.

Orange Level Heat Warnings

In response to the intense heat, orange-level alerts were activated in several regions, indicating a high risk due to exceptionally high temperatures. Areas such as the Guadalquivir Valley, parts of the southeast, and the Ebro Valley experienced temperatures between 38°C and 39°C, with some places even exceeding 40°C. These warnings covered Andalucía, Murcia, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, La Rioja, Navarra, Aragón, Cataluña, and the Balearic Islands.

Storm Warnings for the Pyrenees

In addition to the heat, there are also storm warnings in place for the Aragonese and Catalonian Pyrenees. Heavy rain is expected, with potential downpours accumulating more than 15 liters per square meter in just one hour. These storm alerts are aimed at preparing residents and travelers in the affected regions for sudden and intense weather conditions.

Relief Expected on Friday

Fortunately, the extreme heat is expected to ease off by Friday, July 12. Temperatures will drop significantly across most of the country, and the heat warnings will be downgraded. Only some southeastern areas will remain under yellow level alerts, indicating less severe but still noteworthy high temperatures.

Extended Storm Warnings

The storm warnings for the Pyrenees will extend into the early hours of Friday, continuing to affect the same regions in Huesca and Lleida. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding and hazardous conditions due to the heavy rain.

Preparation and Safety Measures

Authorities are advising residents and visitors in the affected regions to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave. It is recommended to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities. For those in areas with storm warnings, it is important to stay informed about weather updates and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions.
