Spring Weather Shift in Spain: Possible DANA on the Radar
Spain will shift from spring-like sunshine to cooler, wetter conditions this weekend in some parts of Spain. Temperatures are also expected to drop by up to 10ยบC in parts of the country on Saturday.
Warm and Stable Weather Holds Until Friday
Thursday, April 24, will remain mostly calm, with clear skies and very little rain, according to Spainโs national weather agency, AEMET. Some light showers may appear in the eastern Cantabrian region, the Pyrenees, and northern areas of the Canary Islands. Morning fog could develop inland, but it will clear quickly.
Most of the country will enjoy spring weather, with temperatures topping 20ยบC. In southern cities like Badajoz, Murcia, Sevilla, Cรณrdoba, and Granada, highs may reach between 28ยบC and 30ยบC. Madrid is set to hit 25ยบC, and Barcelona 20ยบC.
Storms and Hail Expected on Friday in Inland Areas
Friday, April 25, will still be warm but more unstable. Showers and storms are likely to develop from midday, especially in mountainous and inland regions. Some storms could bring hail, but the Mediterranean coast is expected to stay mostly dry. Temperatures will remain high, particularly in the northeast and southern regions, where some cities may reach 31ยบC or 32ยบC.
Saturday Brings a Sharp Drop in Temperatures and Rain
AEMET forecasts a big change on Saturday. Storms and heavy showers are expected in the north, center, and east of the peninsula. Snow may fall in the Pyrenees above 1,800 meters. Rain will also reach the Balearic Islands and the northern Canary Islands.
Temperatures could fall by 8โ10ยบC in the north. For example, Pamplona will go from 25ยบC on Friday to around 15ยบC on Saturday. Meanwhile, parts of southern Andalucรญa will stay hot, with highs still above 30ยบC.
Unsettled Weather May Affect May Day Bank Holiday
Looking ahead to the May Day bank holiday, a DANA (isolated high-altitude depression) could bring more rain and storms from Tuesday, April 29. While forecasts are still uncertain, many weather models suggest a DANA may hit Spain during the holiday period, potentially affecting travel plans.
The most likely scenario is a rainy long weekend across large parts of the country, particularly from Wednesday, April 30, to Sunday, May 4. However, forecasters say the situation is still developing and updates are expected in the coming days. Stay tuned for more information.
